Research-to-Practice Workshop ‘Multivariate Statistical Analysis. Computer-Based Modelling with SPSS’
On 27 April SUM’s Institute of Information Systems arranged a research-to-practice workshop titled ‘Multivariate Statistical Analysis. Computer-Based Modelling with SPSS’. It was spearheaded by M N Belousova, Associate Professor of the Department of Information Systems.
The workshop was attended by students of the Applied Informatics programme. The participants learned about the methodology for creating and identifying statistical models, the applications of cluster analysis, self-organising Kohonen maps, decision trees and associated rules for the research and modelling of socio-economic processes and systems.
The workshop featured case studies related to market basket analysis to stimulate sales, the clustering of commercial banks to assess creditworthiness, the classification of voting results and the in-depth analytical capabilities of regional and interregional comparisons based on demographic statistics.
Students will be able to apply what they learned at the workshop in their research work.
