A Knowledgeable Investor: Bank of Russia explains financial market rules to SUM students
On 10 October 2019, a representative of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation (also known as the Bank of Russia) held a lecture at the State University of Management, in which SUM students could learn about the financial market and how to invest properly.
Yulia Stepanova, a consultant at the Service for Consumer Protection and Financial Inclusion of the Bank of Russia, explained the mechanism behind the financial market, the main investment rules, how key investment products and tools work and what risks are associated with them, as well as how the basic rights of investors are protected.
Fashioned as a question-and-answer session and with the interactive participation of students in the audience, the lecture tackled such key concepts as ‘inflation’, ‘bank rate’, ‘diversification of investments’, ‘drawing up a financial plan’, ‘safety cushion’, ‘risk hedging’ and many more.
The lecture was held as part of the World Investor Week (WIW), aimed at fostering greater investor education. In 2019, a total of 87 countries and a number of leading international organisations, including the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the World Bank, announced their participation in WIW. The World Investor Week is held in Russia under the auspices of the Bank of Russia.
An active partner of the Bank of Russia in the area of the Financial Literacy of the Population, the State University of Management has already carried out a number of joint educational projects.
