Open Day at SUM: Project-Based Training and Innovative Educational Technologies
Over two thousand school students from Moscow, the Moscow Region and the Central Federal District visited SUM for its Open Day.
One of the main focuses of this year’s programme was project-based education and training for applicants. SUM is opening a ‘pre-university’ in September to give school students a taste of university life. In addition to the school curriculum, they will also have a chance to learn more specialised disciplines. The SUM pre-university is set to provide training to Moscow students in the 10–11th grades in socio-economic and technical fields (IT).
Benefits of studying at SUM include a project-based approach to education, an active student life, innovative educational technologies, self-learning opportunities for business and various master classes, workshops and international activities.
The University’s Open Day was preceded by the #ChooseSUM flash mob. Here’s what some students had to say:
‘Coming to our university will change your life in a big way. You’ll meet lots of new people, professionals and teachers you can learn a lot from. You’ll also get plenty of training on different topics,
Artem Glotov.
‘We have a great faculty and a very dynamic student life. I’m really glad I’m studying at SUM’,
Yekaterina Koshleva.
‘I was interested in brands. I wanted to know how that system works from the inside, which is why I chose the brand management course. Not many universities offer courses in this field, so I chose SUM. I really like our lecturers, especially the ones who have their own businesses and personal brands in addition to lecturing. I’m in my 3rd year, and I’ve already learned a lot, which I’m really happy about. Come study at SUM!’,
Roman Bayan.
The SUM Auditorium hosted a meeting for potential future students, in which SUM Vice Rector Aleksandr Troitskiy remarked,
‘Our university deals in a wide range of educational activities. I’m sure you’re aware that you have plenty of opportunities when it comes to creative, educational and other activities. Choosing a profession is a big decision, and we very much hope that many you here today will be our future students. Ours is one of the oldest universities of our country and has been training managers in various fields for a century now’.
Troitskiy also highlighted the importance of project-based training,
‘Project-based training and the application of the latest educational technologies come front and centre. For this reason, we have developed new programmes, online courses from leading lecturers and many other useful resources.
In addition to giving future students an idea of life at SUM and its educational programmes, Open Day is aimed at helping them consider life after graduation and their future employment.
‘My second degree is from SUM, and I’m deeply proud of it. Employment is a very important issue in my opinion. Business Russia and SUM are working to re-establish the youth employment system—while it’s certainly had its pros and cons in the past, we’re aiming to improve its strengths by applying existing techniques’,
said Nonna Kagramanyan, Vice President and Head of the Executive Committee of Business Russia.
An exhibition of educational programmes ran throughout Open Day. Representatives from institutes put together a large number of presentations and answered participants’ questions about education, different specialties and post-graduation employment prospects.
