A Successful Online Presentation Practice for Students of the Institute of Information Systems
The State University of Management’s Institute of Information Systems held a research-to-practice event aimed at involving students in research activities as well as mastering software for participating in online seminars and conferences.
Associate professors of the Department of Information Systems Anna Makarenko and Marina Shevchenko held a research-to-practice seminar, which offered fourth-year students enrolled in educational programmes of the Institute of Information Systems a chance to familiarise themselves with the specifics of online presentations in practice.
This event is particularly relevant in the light of the situation in the world caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. While scientists are making forecasts, the State University of Management is preparing for all possible scenarios: for instance, if a thesis is to be defended online, students should be prepared for it both mentally and technically. The objectives of the event’s purposes were not exhausted – all participants were asked to prepare a presentation on a scientific topic with practical value related to the subject of their future graduate paper.
The event’s organisers have decided not to impose any restrictions on the presentation topics as the State University of Management will soon hold two other conferences attended by a number of graduates who will present works on their major subjects. Furthermore, we believe that scientific broadmindedness, curiosity and creativity should be welcomed and encouraged.
The seminar featured interesting presentations on a wide variety of aspects of the creation and use of information technologies. In particular, they discussed the peculiarities of developing PWA applications, the practical application of physics-based animation technology, ensuring the security of information facilities through the use of firewalls, the usability of web resources, the evolution of the worldwide web etc. All reports were supported by presentations made with high technical and design quality.
Thanks to the seminar, students got a chance to actually attend an online scientific event not just as listeners but as active participants. We hope that the information they received will be useful to broaden their scientific perspectives.
