City of Education: State University of Management Offers Transport and Automotive Business Education Programmes
Moscow hosted one of the largest events in education: the third international ‘City of Education’ forum, held at the VDNKh Exhibition of Economic Achievements and in Gorky Park. Over the course of four days, more than 152,000 visitors participated in more than 700 events. The forum agenda focused on children and the unique educational opportunities they can benefit from living in a megalopolis.
The State University of Management was actively involved in the forum. It was represented by Vladimir Savchenko-Belsky, Professor of the Department of Transport System Management, Academic Director of the Interuniversity Student Club for Collaboration with the United Nations at United Nations Association of Russia.
Professor Savchenko-Belsky presented the educational programmes of the University through the example of ‘Automotive Business Management’ and spoke with representatives of the affiliated schools. The dialogue with Larisa Zernichenko, member of the municipal council and Head Teacher of School No. 1883 in Butovo, was especially fruitful. As a result, agreements were reached to involve certain Moscow schools in the University’s career guidance activities, such as University Saturdays, Transportation Holidays and the Industry-Based School in Modern Economic Conditions. The conclusion of agreements with schools is currently under consideration.
More than a thousand experts arrived in Moscow from 50 countries and more than 80 Russian regions to speak at the forum’s 15 venues. They included Vyacheslav Fetisov, Ambassador of the World Tourism Organisation and UNESCO, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, Andreas Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, Yelena Bunina, CEO of Yandex, Ger Graus, Director for International Educational Programmes at Kidzania and Olga Lombas, Director at Lego Education — Russia and CIS.
