More than 100 Russian students will take part in the UNESCO simulation model for education in Moscow
The key topics of the event will cover aspects of AI development and modern media, including issues regarding the dissemination of inaccurate information.
The UNESCO model for education, to be held for the first time at the State University of Management (SUM), will bring together more than 100 students from Moscow universities in the field of international relations and international law. SUM Rector Ivan Lobanov told TASS on Friday.
The UNESCO model is both a youth conference and a business game. International student participants are accorded the same functions as those of representatives of UNESCO Member States. The universities participating in the event include the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Moscow State University, the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, the Russian State University for the Humanities and the National Research University Higher School of Economics. This year the students will be joined by high school students from Moscow schools.
On 10 December, as part of the III International Forum Stepping into the Future: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Economy, the UNESCO model will be held for the first time at SUM (as part of the SUM centenary celebration programme – TASS editor’s note), which will bring together more than one hundred university students in the fields of international relations, international law, international management, public administration and political science. The key topics of the event will cover aspects of AI development and modern media, including issues regarding the dissemination of inaccurate information on the internet,
he explained.
The model will not only be a platform for students to gain practical experience but also an opportunity to expand cooperation contacts for joint initiatives. School students will get their first experience with UNESCO and will perhaps decide on their professional path. Participating in debates develops important skills for international students, language skills in particular, as well as the ability to successfully handle political discussions and negotiations. AI and transformation of the infosphere is our reality, and today’s students who are willing to devote their lives to international activities need a deep understanding of these processes,
he told the agency.
One of the key strategic goals of the UNESCO Chair ‘Societal, Legal and Ethical Frameworking of Knowledge Societies’ is to promote the science – policy – society relationship as well as ethical and inclusive policies for sustainable development. The organisers expect young people to share their vision of ethical issues related to the implementation of AI. The outcome of the event will be a document developed by the participants, including a vision of the issue and ways of solving it, which will be sent to UNESCO for consideration. Jaco Du Toit, Programme Specialist at UNESCO’s Communication and Information Sector, will evaluate the results of the model.
