Rector of the State University of Management Ivan Lobanov met young scientists and activists from SUM’s Student Council
Rector of the State University of Management Ivan Lobanov met young scientists and activists from SUM’s Student Council. The tradition of holding such meetings has taken root at the university, and these meetings are always a lively conversation on a variety of issues: from the development of science, participation in federal and regional projects, the discussion of plans for the development of the university to the formation of the life philosophy of young people and solving pressing issues.
In his opening speech, SUM Rector Ivan Lobanov noted that the university has developed at a good pace, and it is science that is a priority focus, the foundation of the entire educational process.
Science forms the values, reveals the need for particular knowledge that determines the course of the educational process,
the rector stated.
He said that the university today has a lot to offer for active students and young scientists. This refers, above all, to the implementation of specific projects with different types and levels of interaction: from industrial partners to research organisations.
This approach to education is unique as students acquire teamwork skills while implementing a real full-cycle project, have the opportunity to form a labour market for themselves, and the industrial partner gets the opportunity not only to solve a specific practical issue but also to model the requirements to the competencies of their future employees. In addition, a foundation for start-ups and small innovative enterprises is being created.
As you know, potential employers today are not so much interested in the graduate’s diploma as in their knowledge and skills. There is no room for ambiguity in today’s world, and the project approach will give you the opportunity for rapid self-presentation. A project that can be seen, evaluated and assessed is always more preferable to an employer than just a diploma. We want you to be prepared for what is happening in our country and in the world today,
said Ivan Lobanov.
The findings of the project implementation assessment will serve as a basis for adjusting the educational course and shaping the professional portfolio of each project participant and the team as a whole.
It is important for us that you show everything you have learned through the digital design of your work and interactions. It will definitely be part of your portfolio. For our part, we are ready to respond to your needs so that you can fulfil yourself through the project approach,
the rector stated.
Young scientists from the university told the rector about the method of searching for and selecting scientific projects. One way is the Summer Project Office, which is organised by SUM Digital Economy and High Technologies project laboratory. The 2019 project office initiatives were aimed at developing specific services for students. For example, as a result of the summer office, an application was developed for the Physical Education Department. It was developed by first year students from the Applied Mathematics and Informatics Department.
In addition, young scientists are working on a data-driven system to predict the effectiveness of newly developed and existing educational programmes and optimise the use of resources. The system being developed is based on in-depth analysis of big data generated by the university. This information is highly diverse, ranging from the amount of power consumed in classrooms at a particular time of day to the level of occupancy of a particular teacher and student at the moment, a year ago or in the next semester. Researchers at the State University of Management (SUM) are also working on the creation of an intelligent legal document search system ‘Yurtech’ (‘LegalTech’), which will use neural networks to find contradictions in laws and suggest which documents will be modified by the approved amendment.
As regards general development, we participate in all conferences, work actively with school students and see the impact of these efforts,
said Mikhail Nachevskiy, chairman of the Young Scientists Council.
You have to understand that you need to be interesting to your employer. Success requires creativity, commitment and maximum engagement. Therefore, if you progress every day step by step toward your goal, you will be ahead of everyone. Any initiative needs a systemic approach and constant engagement, which is what I encourage you to do. Be active. Leave your comfort zone. Be engaged,
said Ivan Lobanov.
Representatives from the University Student Council told the rector about the participation in federal and regional projects and grant competitions. Volunteering activities were paid particular attention.
The Student Council is a structural unit of the university that actively prepares students to participate in various project activities: from project preparation, cost estimate, distribution of each participant’s role and milestone analysis for a particular result. The plan is to develop the student’s union and volunteer activities as the basis for the shaping of the active life and active attitude of youth,
said Georgiy Tarkhanovskiy, curator of the student’s union.
At the end of the meeting, the university rector suggested that activists and young scientists consider creating a territory of advanced growth: ‘the university as a territory of advanced growth’. The rector believes that this formula is of particular interest not only as a form of accelerated development but also as a factor leading the scientific and educational, high-tech and cultural and educational movement.
