Russia’s Minister of Science and Higher Education Mikhail Kotyukov: the Leaders of Russia contest’s Nauka track receives over 10,000 applications

More than 10,000 applications were submitted for the Nauka (Science) track of the 2020 Leaders of Russia managerial contest, part of the flagship Russia—Land of Opportunity presidential project. The announcement was made by Mikhail Kotyukov, Russia’s Minister of Science and Higher Education and mentor of the Nauka track, at a briefing on 16 October 2019.

The Minister reminded journalists that one of the key tasks set by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin in the Scientific and Technological Development Strategy of the Russian Federation is to create opportunities for identifying talented youth and building a successful career in research, technologies and innovations.

Launched with the support of Russia’s President, the new season of the Leaders of Russia contest now features a Nauka professional track. According to Mikhail Kotyukov, up to 30 participants will be able to become the winners of the contest’s Nauka track. They will be evaluated by criteria such as systemic and critical thinking, communicative skills, social responsibility, creativity, leadership and management of a scientific product life cycle.

The Minister also discussed the prospective career paths for the Nauka track finalists and winners. They will get an opportunity to take up positions at Russia’s leading universities and research institutions, a relevant ministry and regional administrations. The winners in the Nauka track of the Leaders of Russia contest will also be able to take part in the annual St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and the Open Innovations Forum.

Earlier, SUM Rector Ivan Lobanov emphasised the importance of the Leaders of Russia contest:

‘The Leaders of Russia contest is a social elevator with impressive state support, which presents an opportunity to prove oneself, demonstrate one’s talents and ability to work in a team, and join the managerial elite of tomorrow’.
