SUM to Head Environmental Programmes
The State University of Management has joined the International Scientific and Educational Consortium ‘Workforce for a Green Economy’.
This means that the University will contribute to the fundamental modernisation of specialist training in environmental policy, nature management, and the implementation of engineering ecology methods by launching innovative interdisciplinary educational programmes with environmental content in various fields of the natural sciences and humanities.
The makeup of the Consortium’s Coordinating Council has also been approved. SUM members in the Consortium include SUM Vice Rector Kseniya Yekimova as member of the Board of Trustees, and Professor Svetlana Kiseleva, Head of ‘Environment and Technosphere Safety and Environmental Management’ at the SUM Department of Economics and Management in the Energy Industry as member of the Coordinating Council.
‘The State University of Management has extensive experience in environment-orientated scientific and educational activities and can make a significant contribution to creating an effective modern corporate system for training well-qualified professionals’, noted Svetlana Kiseleva. ‘Our membership in the Consortium will allow us to expand the University’s ability to carry out its research activities, as well as reinforce the University’s image in light of the increasingly pressing nature of the environmental safety, environmental management, and resource conservation challenges facing the world today.’
The working sessions of the Consortium have already led to the approval of its work plan and the announcement of the events and activities of the ‘Environmental Marathon 2020’ event. These include the creation of a pool of environmental education programmes, the organisation and running of the Russia-wide Competition of Bachelor’s and Master’s Theses, the hosting of the ‘Great Reconnaissance 2020’ competition aimed at stimulating innovative projects, and the organisation and running of the Russia-wide Competition of Environmental Research Projects.
