SUM’s StuDos Creative Team Wins UNESCO’s ‘Dancemania’ International Competition
The StuDos creative team has won the 3rd-class award at the Online International Choreographic Competition ‘Dancemania’ organised by the International Dance Council under the UNESCO Moscow Section. The team prepared a dance performance called Orange Orchestra for the competition and managed to bring victory both to themselves and to the University as a whole.
A total of 2,477 applications to participate in ‘Dancemania ‘ were submitted by dance groups from 9 countries. On 7 May the jury began reviewing the performances, taking into account the skill and technique of the movements, the compositional structure of the performances, the appropriacy of the repertoire for the age groups of the performers, the theatrical effectiveness (movements, costumes, props and culture of the performance), the musical selection and its suitability for the choreographed material and artistry.
‘It is a great honour to win an international competition that almost 2,500 teams from around the world have taken part in,’
shared team member Polina Kapisheva, 2nd-year student at the SUM Institute of Economics and Finance.
In addition to sharing the latest news on the competition, the organisers have also made daily posts on their official social media pages containing useful information for dancers and choreographers alike. Examples include master classes, video warm-ups and trivia to help readers broaden their horizons.
‘I’ve always found it difficult to motivate myself to study at home without a choreographer, but the video lessons provided by ‘Dancemania’ turned out to be just what I needed,’
said Elizaveta Khorobrova, team member and 1st-year student of the SUM Institute of State Management and Law.
The competition aims to introduce talented participants to Russia-wide and international cooperation programmes, support and develop the art of choreography and promote and preserve the traditions of dance culture. It also seeks to create a competitive environment, organise master classes for teachers and team members and provide them with an opportunity to improve their performance skills.
This victory in such a major competition organised by UNESCO once again affirms the high level of creative training among SUM’s teams and students. ‘Congratulations to the team on their victory,’ commented Tatyana Simonova, Head of the Youth Policy and Education Department. ‘Despite the restrictive measures that are currently in place due to the coronavirus pandemic, the work we do at the university doesn’t stop for a minute. We actively communicate, participate in creative competitions and KVN games and continue to master new ways of working – primarily through the internet.’
Congratulations to the winners!
