Virtual museums for SUM students

SUM’s Youth Policy and Education Department has prepared a series of useful online tours and lectures of museums for personal development during the distance-learning period. You can visit the best museums in Russia and around the world and learn more about history, science, literature and art.

N A Nekrasov Library

You can listen to lectures and browse through rare digitised publications in the Elektronekrasovka e-library.  Each podcast or video lecture is accompanied by books and periodicals from the collections of the N A Nekrasov Central Scientific Library. You can learn about Moscow’s theatre life, popular music of the 1920s, history of the Bauhaus school and much more. You can also take a virtual tour with the Guide to Moscow of the Past, see Avant-Garde on Shabolovka, listen to a performance about Aleksandr Rodchenko’s journey to Paris and get acquainted with many other lectures and podcasts on architecture, music, cinema, history and literature.

In addition, the Lecture Hall section contains records of lectures on a wide range of topics, ranging from talks with Moscow local historians (Sense of the City) and lectures on classical and contemporary music (Real Music) to lectures on psychotherapy and video game history.

Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve

Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve’s official channel stores video recordings and broadcasts of events, teasers for exhibitions and announcements of curator’s tours. Here you can watch a video recording of a multi-hour Museums and Cinema round table, during which directors, camera operators, artists and film critics conversed with art historians and curators of exhibitions; listen to a course of lectures called ‘Catherine II. A Witty History‘, dedicated to various aspects of the Empress’ reign; or study the exhibition’s educational programme ‘Catherine Wing of Montplaisir. Journey from Peterhof to Tsaritsyno’.    

The State Museum of Mayakovsky

The official website of the State Museum of Mayakovsky offers several virtual exhibitions. Exhibition ‘Lyudmila Mayakovskaya. One Hundred Men and a Woman‘ is dedicated to Vladimir Mayakovsky’s sister, who opened the poet’s museum in Baghdadi, Georgia, and devoted the last years of her life to popularising her brother’s creative heritage.  The exhibition ‘Mayakovsky. The Ascent‘ invites visitors to take a virtual tour around Mayakovsky’s house and solve some artistic puzzles dedicated to the life and death of the poet.

The exhibition ‘Photomontage in Avant-Garde Publications‘ will introduce visitors to illustrations for Mayakovsky’s poem ‘That’s What’ and other works by the master of photomontage Aleksandr Rodchenko as well as with the experiments of Sergey Senkin and Gustav Klutsis in this area.

The Battle of Borodino Museum-Panorama

Visitors to the  Battle of Borodino Museum-Panorama website can learn about the Understandable Museum project

http://1812panorama.ru/visitors/museum-events/ponyatnyy-muzey—a series of popular science videos about the history of 19th-century Russia. These videos are based on the museum’s collection, which is presented in a as an online exhibition.

Visitors can also take a virtual tour of the museum on the website.

The Museum of Cosmonautics

The website of the Museum of Cosmonautics also features virtual exhibitions. These include the project ‘The First Space Squad. Who Will Become an Astronaut‘, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the first team of cosmonauts. The exhibition ‘Yuriy Gagarin. First Flight into Space‘ depicting the life of the first astronaut in the world; and the exhibition ‘Energy-Buran. Rocket Glider of the Future, dedicated to designers, engineers, test pilots, chemists, builders and other people who made the Soviet space programme a reality.

The website also offers the exhibition ‘The Museum of Cosmonautics in Detail. The Story Told through Exhibits, dedicated to museum items that visitors often miss, and an online tour of the exhibition.

The official website of the House of the Russian Abroad named after Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn offers the main exhibition ‘Paths and Lives‘.  Visitors can learn about 30 exhibits by clicking on the camera icon.

The Timiryazev State Museum of Biology invites visitors on virtual tours of the exhibition ‘D I Mendeleev‘, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Periodic Table of Elements, the exhibitions ‘Portraits on Skeletons‘ and ‘Garden of Life‘.  

The Exhibition Halls of Moscow association invites you to watch interviews with the curators of the Electromuseum in Rostokin gallery and galleries ‘On Shabolovka‘, ‘Khodynka‘ and ‘Vykhino‘. The Museum of Moscow invites you to view video recordings of lectures and discussions

The Scriabin Memorial Museum channel offers classical music concerts, and the website invites you to the exhibitions ‘A N Scriabin. Musical journeys. Cities and countries‘ and ‘A Hundred Years of Attraction‘ dedicated to the history of the museum. 

The Moscow State Integrated Museum Reserve has also prepared online exhibitions and tours.

Online tours are also available for the Kolomenskoye Museum Reserve, the T-34 Tank History Museum, the Museum of K G Paustovsky, the State Darwin Museumthe Aleksandr Shilov Gallery, Gogol’s House, the Moscow State Museum of S A Yesenin, the Mikhail Bulgakov Museum, the State Museum-Cultural Centre Integration named after N A Ostrovsky and the Pushkin State Museum.  You can take a tour via the Google Art & Culture portal or on the museums’ websites.

Museum exhibitions are also available on Museum Moscow Online.  Users can visit 148 virtual exhibitions and see 40,000 exhibits.
