VPN 2020: Rosstat’s Project Office at SUM Continues its Work

Rosstat’s project office at SUM continues to work online with partners of the Russian Census.

Preparing for the 2020 Russian Census is an essential stage in such a large-scale event. Yesterday SUM’s Project Office held two online meetings of representatives from PJSC VimpelCom (Beeline), Rosstat and Cros. They discussed the future agreement between Beeline and Rosstat on cooperation during the preparation and holding of the 2020 Russian Census. Similar online meetings with PJSC MTS and Megafon are to be held soon.

SUM’s Project Office, in turn, prepared and handed over to Rosstat a database of planned fixed census points, comprising about 20,000 units. They also developed a database on national-cultural autonomies of Russia and letters of request to heads of autonomies to inform their diasporas about VPN 2020. Similar letters were earlier sent to all religious denominations in Russia.

The Russian Population Census is an important event that can be used not only to assess the current state of all spheres of life in the country but also to plan its socio-economic development for the next decade. As part of the 2020 Russian Census, SUM will be responsible for methodological training, expert and analytical support, monitoring and subsequent analysis of census results.

Background information: 

In October 2020 Russia will carry out the Russian Population Census (VPN) 2020 with the use of digital technologies for the first time. The State University of Management is the project office of VPN-2020. 

On 3 March the State University of Management hosted the International Research-to-Practice Conference ‘Smart Nations: Global Trends in the Digital Economy’ that featured a session ‘Digital Population Census: Technologies and Tools’. The key topics for discussion included the global experience in the use of telecommunications tools in conducting censuses and the features of digital technologies in VPN 2020. The session also included a meeting with representatives from Rosstat, the international community, SUM technological partners and leading Russian telecom companies with a view to their participation in the VPN 2020 projects as partners.
