Analysis of Funding for “Russia’s Digital Economy” National Programme: Personnel for the Digital Economy

According to N. Kuznetsov, Head of Analysis and Modelling of Economic Processes and Systems Scientific School, training qualified personnel for the national programme Russia’s Digital Economy is a priority for universities that offer a major in IT and Computational Technology. Experts believe that by 2024, 120,000 students will be graduating with a degree in this field every year. It will become an important step in the programme for providing qualified staff for the digital segments of economy. If the current trends continue, this number will be achieved three years earlier, by 2021. The quality of future employees for the digital economy is an important aspect that we must now take into account.

The share of digitally educated people will also grow by 2024. Statistics currently indicate that less than half of all people in Russia can use digital devices confidently. With this factor in mind, we have to admit the fact that digitally illiterate people often face difficulties in obtaining certain services. The solution might be creating a comprehensive national policy to increase digital literacy and a programme of digital volunteers.
