Do or Die make it to the finals of the Cup Ural 2020 Case Championship

The Do or Die team, part of SUM’s Garnet case club, made it to the finals of the Cup Ural 2020 case championship held by Changellenge.

Cup Ural 2020 lasted two weeks, during which time over 550 students from 100 teams from all over the country were tasked with solving business cases. The top 60 participants made it to the final, where they presented their business solutions to top managers from MegaFon, Ernst & Young and Unilever. Participants were required to demonstrate significant analytical skills, teamwork and managerial decisions to find solutions to the cases.

The Do or Die team, comprising Ruslan Akhmedov, Lyubov Nikiforova, Polina Anikeyeva and Tatyana Matyagina, prepared a solution for a case involving the development of a series of summer events to maximise MegaFon’s profits by attracting and retaining new subscribers. Their performance earned them a place in the finals.

Every case championship is a rewarding experience as they let participants fully immerse themselves in the industry in just two weeks. You learn to think systematically and improve your analytical and soft skills, all of which is useful for building careers,

said Ruslan Akhmedov, team member and second-year student at the Institute of Economics and Finance.

It was cool to take part in the case championship with the guys again and feel that atmosphere. I liked our case because while there were restrictions in terms of “where”, “what” and “when”, the “how” was decided and developed solely by us, which gave us some creative freedom. The finals were held completely online, meaning we had to develop and finalise our solutions remotely. Fortunately, in this new format we were defending our solution to the same case. This made it easier and faster to concentrate and figure out what needed to be improved. Zoom was a lifesaver for us, but we would still like to visit Yekaterinburg,

remarked Lyubov Nikiforova, team member and second-year student at the Institute of Marketing, of the experience.
