IEF Team Wins RFBR Grant for its Research

This week, it was announced that the research team under Professor Olga Medvedeva of the Economic Policy and Economic Indicators Department of the Institute of Economics and Finance has been awarded a grant from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR). The grant was awarded for the team’s theoretical research conducted in association with the RFBR and the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research.

New Issue of the International Economics Journal

International Economics has released its second issue. Its Urgent News column features an article titled ‘The Impact of the Chinese Coronavirus on the Global Economy and Trade’. The team of researchers behind the article includes Victor Kirillov, the leading professor of the Department of Global Economics at the SUM Institute of Economics and Finance.

The article examines the impact of the novel coronavirus outbreak on the Chinese economy and assesses the impact of the virus on international trade. The authors note that the growth of the epidemic has led to the shutdown of many factories and plants, as well as the disruption of the normal supply of goods from China to other countries – primarily to the United States and Europe. This has considerably affected the dynamics of data on the economic growth of China, as well as the operation of global production chains. The virus has disrupted agreements on production and distribution and forced importers to start looking for alternative sources of supply from other countries.

Two round tables titled ‘Modern Requirements for Information Generated in System Management Accounting’ and ‘The Challenges of Organising Strategic Management Accounting in Modern Companies’ were held by the Accounting, Audit and Taxation Department.

The events were moderated by Doctor of Economics and Associate Professor Gulnara Adamova.

Participants of the round tables discussed the challenges in conducting management accounting at enterprises in various business sectors that have arisen from the new requirements for information support for management. They also examined Russian and international experiences in the practical application of modern strategic management accounting tools for improving the efficiency of companies. The participants’ reports dealt with pressing challenges in organising and operating management accounting systems, and addressed issues in preparing information necessary to make timely management decisions – particularly in the context of economic crises.

Master Class from KPMG

The Accounting, Audit and Taxation Department, with the participation of KPMG, organised an online event for students of its

‘Accounting, Analysis and Audit’ and ‘Taxes and taxation’ programmes. The master class was attended by full-time 3rd- and 4th-year bachelor’s students, as well as part-time 4th-year bachelor’s students and 1st-year master’s students.

KPMG manager Polina Kasatkina reviewed an Audit Procedures case with the students, answered their questions and gave recommendations on conducting audit procedures using the example of a virtual enterprise.
