Interesting Events of 27–30 April at the Institute of Economics and Finance

The week 27–30 April at the Institute of Marketing was marked by a series of events in which young scientists presented their projects, researchers prepared grant applications and experts discussed the economic situation in Russia and around the world. We have prepared an overview of some of the institute’s most interesting events.

SUM’s Institute of Economics and Finance held a number of interesting and informative events, from scientific conferences to the preparation of research applications. We have gathered a selection of the most interesting events which have made the greatest contributions to scientific development.

On 29 April 67 students of the Institute of Economics and Finance took part in the Economics and Finance section of the 28th All-Russian Student Conference ‘Management Challenges 2020’. Although the conference was held online, students still had an opportunity to discuss the challenges posed by the global financial and energy crisis as well as the changes in Russian and global economic life and the rapid transition of most communications to a digital environment in response to the pandemic. The key takeaway was that the coronavirus has accelerated the transition from digital evolution to digital revolution.

Evgeny Orlov, a postgraduate student in the IEF and Chief Specialist of the Technical and Economic Analysis Department of the Technical Development Directorate at JSC Transmashholding, presented the results of scientific research conducted under a grant from the Russian Research Foundation for Young Scientists at the International Research-to-Practice Online Conference ‘Digitalisation in the Era of Modern Society’ (hosted by Mirapolis). The conference also featured Evgeny’s supervisor Tatyana Rogulenko, Doctor of Economic Sciences and Scientific Director of SUM’s Accounting, Audit and Taxation Department.

On 28 April 2020 the Accounting, Audit and Taxation Department held a round table titled ‘Modern Accounting and Analytical Support in Organisational Management’. The discussion was moderated by Doctor of Economics and Associate Professor I Bardina. The event dealt with issues in accounting and analytical support as well as trends in the development of accountancy in the context of digitalisation and control over the digital tracking of financial transactions. A total of 39 people made scientific presentations at the event.

The Accounting, Audit and Taxation Department held a round table titled ‘Current Issues in Accounting and Taxation’. The discussion was moderated by Associate Professor of the Department Nadezhda Morozova. The event was attended by 20 part-time fourth-year students of the Accounting, Analysis and Audit Programme of SUM’s IEF, 11 of whom gave reports and presentations on the following topics:

  • aspects of shaping and developing the Russian taxation system 
  • the latest trends in tax legislation and the development of tax policy in Russia 
  • measures to support business in response to the crisis and the coronavirus pandemic in terms of industries and medium, small and micro businesses etc.

The discussion outlined the key focal points and nuances of doing business and interacting with tax authorities, banks, counterparties and other entities. The participants also discussed the possibilities offered by tax optimisation and the use of available support measures and assessed their effectiveness.  

The Statistics Department represented by M R Efimova (Doctor of Economics, Professor) E A Dolgikh (PhD in Economics, Associate Professor) and T A Pershina (PhD in Economics) prepared a research application on the topic: ‘The Development of Recommendations to Improve Programmes to Develop Sample Observations on the Employment of Graduates with Secondary Vocational and Higher Education’. In conjunction with the Accounting, Audit and Taxation Department, they prepared a research application on the topic: ‘The Development of Approaches to Forming Statistical Indicators of the Activities of Microenterprises Based on the Information Resources of the Federal Tax Service of Russia to Reduce the Administrative Load on Small Business’.
