Quiz SUM 2.0 Finals on Discord
The online lives of SUM students never cease to amaze – and the number of online platforms for organising events keeps growing. And while Zoom, Twitch and Microsoft Teams are already used actively by the university, there are fewer examples of students using Discord (a messenger application for gamers). Now, IEF students have given us an interesting case study of the platform in use.
Last week, the IEF Student Council held the finals Quiz SUM 2.0 intellectual game organised through Discord. The project consisted of three competitive stages:
- introduction to the structure of the game and scoring initial points
- conducting interactive activities through the official project account, giving everyone an opportunity to test their wits
- the project finals
The event’s organisers created a dedicated channel for the project, allowing them to communicate with the participants, while the competition tasks were displayed using the screen sharing feature. Players were given tasks on a number of different topics, such as guessing a movie or cartoon via emojis, solving puzzles, etc.
The three final winners were:
- Arina Zvyagina
- Elizaveta Ivlieva
- Yulia Tabakova
Overall, this test of the platform proved to be a positive experience: the connection was stable and uninterrupted, and it’s possible to create several virtual rooms on the platform and streamline the moderation process. Congratulations to the winners! We’ll make sure to make use of this new tool in the future!
