Science News at the Institute of Industrial Management for 4–8 May 2020

The Institute of Industrial Management held numerous scientific events on 4–8 May. We have prepared a digest of the Institute’s most important projects to help you keep track of them all.

Project Activities and Competitions:

During the May holidays two teams of first-year students from the Department of Economics and Management in the Energy Industry have been working on their projects for the second stage of the Global Energy Development Youth Forecast contest organised by the Nadyozhnaya Smena Foundation. The teams – Neftyanaya Brigada and Energo.com – are currently working on their forecasts on the topics ‘Local Atmospheric Pollution in Large Cities: the Current State, Future Prospects and the Contribution of Non-traditional Renewable Energy Sources to Solving the Problem’ and ‘Traditional Hydrocarbon Energy as Part of Sustainable Development: the Current Consumption Pattern, Prospects and the Search for New Solutions and Technologies’.

Virtual Lab

First-year students of the Department of Economics and Management in the Energy Industry participating in the ‘#GUU.CODE’ virtual laboratory have successfully learned the basic programming skills needed to advance to the next level. Using data obtained from various social networks (Facebook, VK, Instagram, Twitter), they will learn simple methods of data analysis which will help them acquire one of the key competencies in the future digital economy – Data Science.

Monographs

Lambert Academic Publishing has published the scientific monograph Environment-Oriented Enterprise Development through the Introduction of Green Logistics Tools. The monograph is a joint study by Honoured Scientist of the Russian Federation Professor Yakov Vishnyakov, Head of the Section ‘Environment and Technosphere Safety and Environmental Management’ of the Department of Economics and Management in the Energy Industry, Professor Svetlana Kiseleva and Professor of the Department of Logistics and Supply Chain Operation of the Rostov State Transport University Lyudmila Makolova. 

The monograph examines the methodological basis of green logistics in the development of an enterprise’s environmentally-friendly logistics strategy. The study pays particular attention to the stimulation of environmentally-friendly innovative development among enterprises to facilitate the development of green logistics.

Expert Communities

On 6 May the Council for the Development of Professional Project Management at Higher Educational and Scientific Organisations held a webinar for members to discuss their activities and plans as well as the possibility of joining the Council’s expert community. The State University of Management was represented by Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor of the Project Management Department Yekaterina Khalimon, who is also the Deputy Chair of the Council.

Research

The Department of Management Theory and Organisation has conducted a longitudinal study aimed at assessing the motivation of students to participate in learning activities as well as studying the structure of the IT training needs of students enrolled in management programmes. The Department of Transport System Management has launched a study assessing the development prospects of the labour market in the automotive industry.
