SUM Professor Vladimir Volokh in an Interview to Sputnik Radio: ‘It is not expected that the number of migrants in Russia will grow’

On 9 October 2019, Professor Vladimir Volokh, Doctor of Political Sciences, SUM’s leading expert in migration and honoured worker of the Federal Migration Service, was interviewed by Russia’s Sputnik Radio.

In his interview, Professor Vladimir Volokh rejected the assumption that the number of migrants in the Russian Federation is growing.

The SUM Professor supported his argument with the fact that the number of migrants in the Russian Federation remains stable. In fact, there has been a slight decrease in the number of state border crossings.

Vladimir Volokh believes that intergovernmental agreements such as the regulatory framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) are a major factor in the regulation of labour migration.

SUM’s leading expert in migration does not foresee the number of migrants in Russia growing, instead expecting the country’s migration policy to be implemented in a more organised manner.

Vladimir Volokh was asked to give an expert interview after the Government of the Russian Federation determined the permissible share of foreign workers in certain sectors of the economy on 7 October 2019.

SUM Professor Vladimir Volokh’s interview with Sputnik Radio is yet another step towards greater representation of the expert community of the State University of Management in the Russian and international media landscape. Sputnik Radio broadcasts in 130 Russian cities and 42 countries.
