SUM Student Alevtina Ponomareva Appointed Mail.Ru Group Ambassador

Alevtina Ponomareva, the third-year student at SUM’s Institute of Industrial Management, has been officially appointed the Mail.Ru Group Ambassador at the State University of Management. Having been selected as a participant, Alevtina completed a special programme for Russia’s leading universities.

The Mail.Ru Group Ambassador Programme aims to train young IT specialists as ‘technology evangelists’. In order to be accepted on to this large-scale project, Alevtina had to go through a number of stages.

‘I’ve decided that I want to become an ambassador as it is really important for me to achieve self-fulfilment not just through the university. At some point, I realised that I want to be part of a certain company. As I’m interested in IT trends and, in general, all things digital, I applied for the Mail.Ru Group’s programme as soon as I saw the advertisement. This course presents an opportunity to further develop communicative and management skills, become an official representative of a large company while still a student, complete digital skills training and obtain relevant certificates. During the summer training, we were instructed by the company’s senior managers and at the moment we are attending courses on creating presentations and public speaking at the office’, Alevtina said, sharing details of the Mail.Ru Group Ambassador Programme.

An artistic and creative competition was the first step towards achieving the goal. Young people had to make video business cards, create comic strips about the company and complete challenging tasks. For instance, one of these tasks went as follows: ‘Find the best Pit Stop Man in our company and ask him/her for the key to solving all the problems’. Alevtina quickly realised that she had to analyse open-access information. In the end, she found the right person—Mail.Ru Group’s employee of the year—who was mentioned in the official report.

Another task involved writing an article about a personal project and volunteering experience as well as achievements that Alevtina is proud of. Once accepted through to the second phase of the competition, participants had to complete four tests assessing their general knowledge, logic, knowledge of the company and communicative skills.

After that, participants attended online lectures over the course of two months and took a final test. At the end of the selection process, every applicant who was made it through was interviewed and—if all went well—appointed a company ambassador. This is how Alevtina Ponomareva became Mail.Ru Group’s representative at SUM.

In her new role as ambassador, the SUM student will develop a digital partnership between the company and the university. Alevtina will tell school and university students about IT, new technologies, Mail.Ru Group’s other educational projects, its business areas and job opportunities, hold lectures at SUM, give tours around the company and host other events.
