SUM Turns 100: 210th Anniversary of Transport Education in Russia; 80th Anniversary of Transport Management Programme at SUM

SUM’s leading experts in the field of Automotive Business Management and students of the Institute of Industrial Management of the State University will be guests at the exhibition ‘Transport of Russia. Through Time, into Future’. The exhibition coincides with the 210th anniversary of transport education in Russia and 100th anniversary of SUM. Next year will be the 80th since the launch of the training programme for transport managers at the State University of Management.

Professor Anna Kurbatova and Associate Professor Olga Tetsoeva, representing the Automotive Business Management and International Transportation Management programmes, as well as students of the Institute of Industry Management at SUM will be guests of the exhibition ‘Transport of Russia. Through Time, into Future’.

The exhibition is organised by the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The exhibition was opened by Evgeny Dietrich, Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Medinsky, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, Igor Levitin, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation on Transport, and Irina Velikanova, Director General of the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia.

The exhibition is held in the year of the 210th anniversary of transport education in Russia. The fact that SUM, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and planning to mark the 80th anniversary of the launch of the training programme for transport managers, is participating in the exhibition, is deeply symbolic. The University’s participation is also highly practical, as the goal is to cooperate with the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation at practice-oriented education. Students of SUM’s Institute of Industrial Management do internships at the Ministry, and their theses cover topics agreed upon with the Ministry. The best students are offered professional positions at the Ministry.

The exhibition not only has a professional dimension but is of great patriotic and educational importance as well.

I want as many boys and girls as possible to see this exhibition. They have a chance to see with their own eyes how fascinating working in transport is and how important this work is for our country. Our Motherland is immense. What the Ministry of Transport of Russia is doing, provides material and physical links that tie the country together,

says Vladimir Medinsky, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation.

Providing students with professional knowledge only is barely enough. As part of our holistic training, we also engage in their patriotic upbringing and broadening their horizons. Visiting the Transport of Russia exhibition will help them learn more about their country and feel a sense of responsibility for its fate and well-being!,

says Professor Viktor Gorin, Head of the Department of Transport Complex Management at SUM.
