SUM’s LUCHik Volunteer Student Group Goes Through to The Dobrovolets Rossii Semi-Finals

Polina Garayeva, activist from the LUCHik volunteer student group of the State University of Management and participant of the Central Federal District Volunteers’ Forum ‘Dobro v Serdtse Rossii’ (Good in the Heart of Russia), will represent the University at the semi-finals of the Dobrovolets Rossii (Volunteer of Russia) competition in Voronezh.

The All-Russian Dobrovolets Rossii Competition is taking place for the ninth time, bringing together the best volunteer projects from all across the country. The competition is open to anybody wishing to present their volunteer project or initiative. The organising committee led by Sergey Novikov, Chief of the Presidential Directorate for Social Projects, includes Aleksandr Bugayev, Head of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, Artem Metelev, Chairman of the Association of Volunteer Centres Council, Olga Vasilyeva, Russia’s Minister of Education, Yelena Ulyanova, President of the Ravenstvo Vozmozhnostey Charity Foundation, Valeriy Fadeyev, Secretary of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, and others.

As part of the competition, SUM’s LUCHik group came up with the Accelerator of Talents project to identify and develop skills of children living in orphanages and other social institutions. A total of over 28,000 applications were submitted, with more than half related to social services and targeted aid. Before getting to know the experts, participants were given a number of activities, recording videos, completing training and conducting social campaigns.

Polina Garayeva, LUCHik’s activist, shares her joy: ‘The best of the volunteer projects have been given the opportunity to realise their ideas at a national level. We have been given this chance too! After the successful application and remote participation stages, our team made it through to the semi-finals.

Apart from taking part in various competitions, LUCHik student volunteer group members regularly help children. SUM students have recently visited the SOS Children’s Village Moscow in Tomilino. Volunteers held a workshop for children and helped them create their own Dream Boards. The children’s home management also pitched in to help the children.

Join the LUCHik team and make this world a brighter, kinder and cleaner place.
