SUM’s Summer Project Office Opens Its Doors

The Summer Project Office has opened its doors to students looking to try their hand at project activities and make the most of the opportunity to implement and promote their ideas.

On 5 June, the State University of Management held the online opening of the fourth SUM Project Office, which was created based on the ‘Digital Economy and High Technologies’ project laboratory.

The opening ceremony was attended by Head of the ‘Digital Economy and High Technologies’ project laboratory Mikhail Nachevskiy, as well as the laboratory’s staff and participants of previous iterations of SUM’s Project Office.

Participants of the Project Office from past seasons have expressed their gratitude to the University’s management for the opportunity to acquire in-demand project management skills, as well as share their impressions and experiences. The project leaders of Arctic Pioneer, MoskvaPomosch, and FARMxRESTAURANT discussed their achievements and the developmental stages of their projects.

‘I would like to thank our rector Ivan Lobanov and everyone involved in the Project Office at SUM. When I first came to the Project Office, I didn’t have an idea or a project. In the end, I became interested in the existing MoskvaPomosch project, which was proposed to me as an idea during the initial stage of its development. As a result of the Winter Project Office, I managed to turn the project into a business model that’s currently participating in a number of grant competitions. My project has been selected to take part in the first stage of the Moscow Innovator competition for the Moscow Mayor’s Prize for the best urban innovation projects,’

commented Yekaterina Balina, participant of the Winter Project Office.

‘I’m very glad that SUM’s Summer Project Office was still able to open during such a difficult time, and I’m confident that its work will be a success. I’d like to point out that my participation in the Project Office has given me invaluable experience, without which my future life outside the university would be extremely difficult. I’ve gained skills in allocating roles and responsibilities, time management and strategic thinking,’

remarked Dmitry Ivanov, participant of the Winter Project Office.

Participants of the event also discussed their ideas for possible Summer Office projects, as well as how they are planning to conduct their work in the pandemic.

The latest Project Office will be different from its predecessors. SUM’s Project Office continues to operate despite current difficulties, with the current stage set to take place remotely. ‘We have all the technology we need to make this happen. The servers currently provided by the market open up new opportunities to develop ideas,’

noted Head of the Digital Economy and High Technologies project laboratory, Mikhail Nachevsky.

‘The Summer Project Office will be very diverse in terms of the expertise it provides. We will diversify the Office with a variety of lectures and we’ll be working with top experts from professional communities. We’ll do everything we can to make sure you gain as much experience as possible,’

added Yevgenia Saninskaya, the leading specialist at the Digital Economy and High Technologies project laboratory.

The new season of the Summer Project Office is set to feature online meetings and presentations held by leading experts involved in digital economy programmes at various levels. Participants will receive feedback from leading practitioners working to implement high-level projects. In particular, they will have the opportunity to learn about demand for their projects and discover which risks they need to account for in real-world conditions.

In the near future, the Summer Project Office and the SUM Accelerator will hold lectures on the topics of ‘Project Management. Project Management Requirements’, ‘Writing Effective Applications: How to Win a Grant’ and ‘Effective Project Communication’, as well as the ‘Introduction to Neural Networks via ZOOM’ workshop, a round table of the Young Scientists Council on the topic ‘Pandemic and Technologies: Stagnation or Breakthrough’, and a weekly intensive project workshop featuring students from the Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics.
